Forever Våland, satt i stein
Som en del av kunstprogrammet Der vi møtes – kunst i uterom, skal Stavanger kommune gjennomføre et større permanent kunstprosjekt på Våland. Kunstprosjektet skal være et helhetlig grep i et større område. Kunstnerduoen Sans façon fikk tildelt oppdraget etter en lukket konkurranse høsten 2025.
Kunstnerne har utviklet kunstprosjektet Forever Våland, satt i stein, og vil jobbe videre med dette gjennom 2026 og inn i 2027.
Om kunstnerne
Sans façon er en kunstpraksis som utforsker forholdet mellom mennesker og sted. De arbeider internasjonalt, og tilnærmingen deres søker etter å fornye oppmerksomheten vår, og invitere til samspill med omgivelsene. Arbeidet realiseres gjennom nettverk av lokalsamfunn, organisasjoner og enkeltpersoner.
Kunstnerne bak Sans façon er Charles Blanc og Tristan Surtees.
Om kunstprosjektet
Forever Våland, satt i stein er et kunstprosjekt som tar utgangspunkt i Våland som sosialt og historisk landskap, og foreslår en serie stedsspesifikke steinplinter, eller sokler, som markerer og hedrer hverdagslige aktiviteter, møter og tradisjoner i området. I stedet for monumenter over enkeltpersoner eller hendelser, ønsker prosjektet å løfte frem det kollektive og det uformelle – «mikro-geografiene» i lokalmiljøet – gjennom funksjonelle steinstrukturer som fungerer som benker, scener, utsiktspunkter og samlingssteder.
Sans façon ønsker å engasjere lokale medvirkere og samarbeidspartnere i utviklingen av prosjektet, og utformingen av skulpturene. Gjennom samarbeid vil kunstprosjektet hedre hverdagen og lokalsamfunnet, ved å lage skulpturer som viser – og legger til rette for – aktivitet som allerede foregår på Våland.

As part of the art programme The Places We Meet – Art in Public Spaces, Stavanger Municipality will realise a major permanent art project in Våland. The project is intended as a holistic artistic intervention across a larger area. The artist duo Sans façon were awarded the commission following a closed competition in autumn 2025.
The artists have developed the project Forever Våland, Set in Stone, and will continue working on it throughout 2026 and into 2027.
About the artists
Sans façon is an art practice that responds to the relationship between people and place. Working internationally, their approach renews awareness and tempts interaction with the surroundings, and is realized through networks of communities, organizations and individuals.
The people behind the duo is Charles Blanc and Tristan Surtees.
About the art project
Forever Våland, satt i stein is an art project that takes Våland as a social and historical landscape as its point of departure, and proposes a series of site-specific stone plinths, or pedestals, that mark and honour everyday activities, encounters, and traditions in the area. Instead of monuments to individuals or events, the project aims to highlight the collective and the informal – the “micro-geographies” of the neighbourhood – through functional stone structures that serve as benches, stages, viewpoints, and gathering places.
Sans façon seeks to involve local contributors and partners in the development of the project and the design of the sculptures. Through collaboration, the art project will celebrate everyday life and the local community by creating sculptures that showcase –and support – the activities that already take place in Våland.
